I honestly don't know for sure. I heard the story second hand, and was told it was some kind of high velocity boat. The people that I heard it from are the cabin cruiser crowd. They would not know one brand from another. I was surprised there was no mention of the story on OSO.

We tooled the first Velocity center-console 22' in 1986 in the Pompano Beach plant, just before we sold to Regal. All right angles, no radius anywhere, just like every other Velocity back then. The floors were a sheet of 5/8" plywood with one layer of 1708 Biax over the top. We then rolled a gelcoat non-skid over that. All the other 22's were a sheet of 1/2" plywood with one 1708 Biax over the top, then carpet. The hulls & decks were cored with 3/8" end-grain balsa & the two were bonded with one 1708 Biax at the hull to deck joint. The resins used were GP resins(general purpose). Steve has always been very weight conscience, in his fiberglass shop, for two reasons. He believes weight gain means speed loss. He also is very cost conscience. Since all the raw materials in a fiberglass shop are purchased by the pound(Resin, M.E.K., fiberglass, filler putties, gelcoat, fasteners, etc...), this relates to dollars cost analyzed per boat. I would find it hard to believe that Steve would fabricate a cockpit floor with a Balsa core laminate sandwich construction, as so many things need to be bolted & screwed to it, that are important.
