you guys need to think bigger. with the kind of money this guy has to be building a 20,000 expansino on his house, only the best of the best will do. I think he shodul go with the new 74 viking. face it, hes not gonne be driving anyways. he'll have a crew to take care of any boat he gets, and he'll be downstars entertaining.

if he wants a fast boat, then the callan 62 or new 55 V. or magnum for fast cruiser. but like someone said, no ones sipping drinks at 50 knots on these boats.

I am a go fast kind of person, so the idea of an open bow never ocurred to me. But today, I was over at a buddy's boat shop, and he had a 23' Searay. That thing had more cockpit room than a 35 Fountain and then had a walkthrough windscreen! I don't know that a 23' Searay would be enough for your friend, but don't some of the West Coast builders make 28 - 30 foot open bow deep-vee boats? Maybe DCB or Advantage or Hallett???

BTW - Shouldn't your friend have asked someone that actually drives an offshore boat rather than someone that just keeps it on the trailer?

Based on what you have listed in this thread, it sounds like the Formula 33ss or 37ss are good candidates for him. The 33 is still "small" enough for a beginner to handle without too much practice, but the 37 has a little more room than the 33. If he gets one of these, he should be able to sell it and upsize to a Sunseeker, etc in a year or two without too much trouble.

Tell him to get a new 50 ft outerlimits and be done with it!! In all seriousness if I was forced to get a cruiser I would likewise look at the formula or a Sunseeker if I had the change it sounds like he does.

We are going to go down to Old Saybrook to look at a dealer that has both Formula and Sunseekers in stock to look at. This guy has full time cooks, cleaning, he does not want a Captain. He was very adament about that, he wants to go out with the family and friends and act how ever they want to. He may love it or he may hate it. At leaste with some of the boats mentioned he can sell with out loosing his shirt, especially the Formula.
