Re: Why Not Volvo Penta or Vortec?
I actually think the Volvos look better than a Bravo. They look low and mean like a bulldog, if that counts for anything. :)

Re: Why Not Volvo Penta or Vortec?
My $.02.....the volvo DPX is a better product, but sale/resale is a problem. A dealer told me if a potentail client sees black on teh back then he doesn't have to "sell" the engine package. (how many people sign up for AOL when they buy a computer even though they SUK)
Also had a 2001 Formula 312 just like mine for sale at a local repo lot for almost a year because it had Volvo 385's and DPX drives. Ended up selling for around 73K. |
Re: Why Not Volvo Penta or Vortec?
You are right about black on the back.
My OMCs are painted black. I was gonna paint em grey again but they guy at the dealer said that I would lose 3 mph. :D |
Re: Why Not Volvo Penta or Vortec?
Amazing. Why do people actually PREFER drives that are more expensive and weaker? It's like choosing 8-track tapes over CD's.
I had my boat built to spec in 2000, and plan to keep it until 2011. At that point, the DPX's may make it worth more after history has played out! :p |

Re: Why Not Volvo Penta or Vortec?
Too bad the rams on the Bravo don't do the steering.
And what's with that 747-sized skeg? :p |
Re: Why Not Volvo Penta or Vortec?
Loo, they were feeling so guilty about ripping off Volvo's technology that they wrote a dissertation about it...

Re: Why Not Volvo Penta or Vortec?
Volvo introduced its “new technology” cone clutch drive in 1963 and its DuoProp in 1982. Apparently, Volvo feels that twenty- and forty-year-old products are “new technology.”
