If you can't swing an extra $1K or $2K on gas per season, one might argue you really can't afford the hobby in the first place. Boats are too big an investment to just let sit idle.

I figure the additional dollar a gallon this year increases my annual boating expense by 5% based on 1,000 gallons used. I wish my health insurance only went up 5% this year. I put fewer miles on because I refuse to pad the pockets of the thieves, but I'm on the boat every weekend and loving it. I had a wave runner once, they are like fat chicks and mopeds, fun to ride, but you don't want to let your friends see you on one!
