Kansas goes by where the boat is Jan. 1 for taxes. All kansas would care about is if you payed some state the taxes.I only register boats in Mo. since Ks. taxes are unreal on boats.

The other reason to document a boat in KS and I believe still Mo. is no sales tax.

I got the "love letter" from Ohio Department of Taxation two years later. Original sales tax plus interest. They could have charged me a huge fine/penalty but declined with immediate cash payment.

If you document a boat you do not pay sales tax. It is one of the major advantages.

But you still GET to pay personal property tax in MO.
