I know the hook issue has been beaten to death. But, in the reading I have done on the forums many think that hook between the outside strake and the chine is okay because at full speed it is out of the water, which makes sense.

I have known my boat has hook in this area and I like the way the boat handles for the most part(no bow launching or porpoising). However, I decided to climb under the boat and check for a hook on the inside of the outer strakes. Although much smaller, there is a hook in-between the inner and outer strake. In, fact there is even a very small amount of hook for about 3" inside the inner strake. The boat has a rounded keel and is flat in that area.

I am thinking about removing the hook on the inside of the outer strake only. My thinking is it will loosen the boat up at high speed but will still have the hook between the outer strake and chine for stability in rough water and keep it from porpoising in the mid-range.

Thoughts and opinions?

Some boats are built with a hook and some develop one. I have seen some remove a hook and pickup speed and suffer severely in ride. What kind of boat and what size are you referring to? Is the boat a pad bottom?

I should have mentioned that. My boat was built with the hook in the hull. It flies very flat because of it, which I like. But, it also runs very flat. That's why I was thinking about just removing the small hook in between the outside strakes and leaving the hook between the outside strakes and chines.

I don't consider the bottom to have a pad, but it does have a rounded keel.
