The 28 Cigarette was "popped" from the 28 Magnum. There were some changes made to the Cigarette such as wider strakes and a lower freeboard. Both at the time were laid up with "polyester resin"-somewhat obsolete by todays standards, although they ride very well in rough water due to their weight. It takes alot of horsepower to get them moving. There are several old Magnums still racing; "Vixen", "Short Circut" and I hear "Deranged" will be making a comeback.
Hope this helps.

Bob G,Vixen is the ode girl of the bunch,Shes kevalar const. and is a good 1200 lb lighter then the others. When we had our misshap in2001 she tore the top deck loose but never pulled a screw out, snapped about 50 screws off on both sides.I thnk i used no less then 8 drill bits redrilling for new screws, that kevelar is some tough stuff. Also, remember George JR. and I ran Deranged a, 1967 28' Magnum and won 2001 National High Points. We use to lap all of the P5, P4, into the P3 and F2's. That was one of the best handling, best turning, and best in rough water boats I had ever been in. It didn't look like much, but ask George about us getting "scolded" by Magnum after Ft. Lauderdale... Something about we "broke out" of P5... Yea... We averaged, 74.9 mph in 6-8 footers. Check the record...

Mel,
What year is Vixen? Also curious as to how much she weighs-I'm restoring a 28' 1967 Magnum and have not had it on a scale.
"Kevlar 49" did not come out untill the late 1970's. Sandy Satullo (Copper Kettle) had the first Kevlar offshore racer. Are you sure Vixen is Kevlar?
Ben,
I guess Deranged lapped the other P4 and P5 boats because it was not legal?????

George,Vixen is a 72,and Icant prove she is kevlar, but she is one of two that were built special with a v windscreen. The story i got from the man i got her from, who i never met untell a year after i bought her off the back row of a car lot for a bill owed the lot owner.was arronow built her extra light so when the front was loaded she would ride normal. He bought her on a drug sale around 73 or 4 and run her tell he couldnt pay for new eng.and drives and let her sit out and go to ruin untell i found her. When i got her done, and i wasnt trying to save on weight at time complete no fuel she went 4420lb.Now that may have changed a little over the last 3 years but not much. When i tried to get a glass man to help me on the front deck he turned me down because he didnt know how to work kevlar. So George thats all i can tell you. MEL TEAM VIXEN
