lets see it so we can tell you if it will be a success.

I have made a few things myself that have recieved alot of request for, but since they are mainly limited to 1 type of boat, the market is just not there.
And to make them 1 at a time, makes them very costly.

First thing you want to do is get a patent on the item. That way nobody can make a duplicate and cut you out. Then start approaching marketing firms or manufacturers about the product. Protect yourself first.

Patents can get very expensive. aprrox 15k is what ive been told. Might want to do some market research if you havnt already to see if itll be worth while as well as a cost analysis and price per piece, etc etc etc. What are you making?

patent search would be a good start to see if it already exists.

Patents are not worth a the paper they are written on unless they are contested in court and the ruling is in your favor. Don't waste your time or money on a patent.

I am a Mechanical Engineering that has a few patents from when I worked at a big company. If a big company wants to use your idea they will and just wait for court to see if they will get in trouble later. By the time you would go to court the legal fees will more than likely fold a small company.

My sugestion would be to market the idea with the idea of going into production. If thier is interest then go into prduction and sell them while you can..........Hope this helps

Any questions let me know

Excellent advice... research the story of the guy who invented the weed eater vs. Black and Decker, or the guy that invented the intermittent windshield wiper, etc etc

I have recently been down this road - try this site for "do-it-yourself" patent / legal advice and so on: http://www.nolo.com/.

And I used this software to file, worked quite well - sort of like Turbo Tax for patents: http://www.inventorprise.com/

Good luck, and if you think it is worth-while, go for it!!!
