I run 12" boxes with IMCO drives. I run the neutral position which is easiest on the drive shafts. In my opinion if you want to raise the X more than the neutral setting you need to raise the engine. I really don't know if mine make much of a difference since i made so many changes at once. They really make the business end look tougher.

I also did so much at once that the only thing noticeable was....I feel that it has more bow lift leverage.
Speed gains I cant say since I went from 525SC's to 800's. 74mph to 90mph |

And what did Reggie say about the beak? Does it make the boat feel longer? :D

Just thought about it again....It has just a tad bit of cavitation on get up in rougher waters.

Re: Do Extension Boxes make a boat feel longer?
I used a Stellings box on my 26' cat. I can't answer the before and after question as I rigged the boat with the box originally. I do know that I was able to plane the boat with the prop actually above the bottom with no problem at all. This is something I know that I could not have done with out the box. The stellings is also adjustable so you can actually dial in the exact shaft height. Some stellings boxes have holes instead of slots. The holes will require the transom to be disassembled to adjust the x-dim. With the stots you just loosen things and then slide the box up or down. The engine does not need to move, although the mfr will recommend you raise or lower the engine for the last bit of adjustment due to driveshaft angles. I know that I never found a vibration between full up and full down.

Re: Do Extension Boxes make a boat feel longer?
I too would love to learn more about this
I truly feel that boxes 'SHOULD' give a cat more speed However I am looking more for cener of gravity change to gain a more comfortable flater ride. I seem to ride ass heavy now and would like to get the transom out of the water :) |
