Default Insurance Question

Just wondering if loosing a propeller Blade, that damages cavitation plate and mid section is a legitimate insurance claim?

In the past I have lost a blade, wiped out a propshaft and Bearing carrier and thought that it was just the cost of performance boating, but this weekend I lost a blade, it went up through the cavitation plate and also took a chunk out of the tower housing on my outboard.
A bunch of the people we were out boating with said that that's what your insurance is for, to cover things that don't normally happen.
They say that there is no way of knowing if I hit something, but non of the other blades or the skeg have any damage.
I'm torn as this is probably a $4000 repair including the prop.

Is this really what insurance is for????
Or just a cost of Performance boating??

FYI, The boat has been insured for 10 years and I have never had a claim.

Thanks for you input,

Caleb

Default Re: Insurance Question

The damage would be covered but not the prop. It is the same as having a blow out on your car. The tire is not covered, but the damage from the blow out is.
