My boat was for sale for 5 weeks before the actual buyer contacted me.
The deal went down and the boat was gone 3 weeks later.
I don't feel i gave it away, and the buyer got a fair deal.
I also saved the 2k i was gonna spend on winterizing and storage. :D

3 months until i finally found a replacement then traded it in. The dealer has had it for sale for a year. I dont know why either. Its listed at less then half of what it cost me and is in great condition. It highly custom though so maybe the right buyer hasnt found it yet.

Here are the problems I see with some of the classifieds:

1. The listed price is SO high that no one bothers calling or figures you're so upside down that it's a ripoff.

2. The word "firm". You might as well not list it, because this means you really don't want to sell. List it higher with a bottom line in mind because people like to negotiate no matter how great of a deal it is.

3. Stop listing standard equipment. Most boats have a depth finder or bilge pump for example. Listing standard equipment tells me the boat isn't that special and you needed to fill ad space.

4. Trailers. Either include the trailer, or don't mention it at all. It's WAY more attractive with a trailer and you're not going to get much more for the trailer by selling it separate. This CAN be a deal breaker.

5. TAKE GOOD PICTURES. I see some of the worst pictures in classified ad's. Take the time to pull in out in the sunlight and get some shots. At least act like you want to sell the boat. If you don't care enough about how the listing looks, how did you treat the boat itself?

Those are just a few things I notice when I'm looking around.

Mine has been in the classifieds for several months with very little activity. If it sells I'll buy a bigger one, if it doesn't I'll keep using it. I thought it was priced fairly.

Mine has been in the classifieds for awhile, but it isn't the usual boat either and it will take the right buyer to make the sale. I have it priced right, pictures look good and there are alot of them. I priced it without the trailer, because some people called didn't want the trailer, so they have that option to buy it or not. I hate selling stuff!!

TSG, I agree... pics pics pics.
With todays dig cameras and emails, its easy to show your boat.
My buyer never even came and looked at it. No surveyor either.

It's amazes me to see some of the boats on this site that have been for sale for months, some even over a year. Guys... If it hasn't sold...The price is too high!! I've seen a few lately that say price reduced for 1 week only, or 1 month, give me a break, like that'll make it sell.

Mine is for sale.... and has been for years... but it still needs a motor of sorts so I guess it's gonna remain a hard sell till I fix it!
