We did the same thing from '80 till about '85. I tried to film one take off from the start standing about 10 feet away. About blew out my eardrums and received a nice mist of top fuel! It was cool but this was before canopies and I saw too many guys killed. That was enough for me.

I'm use to Lake Charlevoix and the northern part of the Great Lakes, where you don't have to worry as much about someone running into you.
But my question for all of you is: Where and what do you like about boating???

JB, I go to Lake of the Ozarks on Memorial Day, 4th of July, and Shootout weekend. I go to look at people and boats. If you are looking for peaceful tranquility and no other boats, then make a U-turn. I feel scenery areas are fine for the first 5 minutes. I go for the crowds and people. I do poker runs for the same reason. Some of the bars at LOTO have as many as 2-3000 people on any given weekend. I have boated at many lakes and the ocean and I prefer LOTO to any place in the country.

IMHO, nothing beats the Gulf of Mexico, specifically the Tampa Bay area. The only thing that might be better is Destin.

Btw, I don't recall any of God's lakes failing, and drowning hundreds of people downstream.

Natural lakes are better, the WPA built G.L.O.C. starting in 1938
