Mv-10 550 Compare To The Merc.525efi

Was wondering what the pros and cons of these two motors.Price, availability, and performance.

1. MV10-550 w/Teague drive

2. Merc. 525 with the XR drive

Also,Does it pay(save) to have it rigged by someone else or the mfg. of the boat. Im leaning toward the mfg. because he knows his boat better then anyone else. I would just have the motor and drive installed some where else.

Great subject! I'm curious also.

What's the cost difference between the Merc 525 and MV10-550?
What's the cost difference between the MV10-550 and MV10-625?
What's the cost difference between a 496 ho and MV10-550?

Re: Mv-10 550 Compare To The Merc.525efi

If I was ordering a new boat I would go with the 625 Ilmor over the 525. It has more 85 more hp power than the Merc 525, has more torque, and is some 300 lbs lighter.

Howerver, I don't see the point in buying the 550 Ilmor. The only advantage I see to the 550 is that for $6500 the factory will turn it into a 625, so why not just go ahead and buy the 625 from the start.

But If your decison is a 550 vs the 625, hands down go with the 525 because of service and resale.
