The motors are rebuilt with all new parts (pistons, rings, heads, valves, lifters, pumps, bearings etc.). The blocks are original, but completely re-machined and blueprinted, as is everything in these motors.

In other words, they are identical to what they were when they left Mercury.

The "local shop" you mention is Innovation Marine, which was the only place, other than Mercury, authorized to rebuild, and CERTIFY, HP500EFI's for the APBA in Factory I and II. Racers could either have Merc do the work in Fondalac, or Innovation do it in Sarasota.

Innovation and Mercury Racing make the identical product. In fact, all of the top guys came from Mercury Racing in Wisconsin, and all of their 20+ people aer Merc trained. In fact, I had to wait a couple of weeks for my work because all of the their Techs were at Mercury school in Wisconsin. :D
