Re: New 38 Donzi ZX vs. 42 Executioner

The 38Zx isn't Donzi's Poker Run Boat, the Zr series takes care of that.
If you are comparing apples to apples compare the 38Zr to the 42 Executioner.

What's the real price diff between these two?
Could you upgrade to ilmors or 600s in the EX?

Goomba, whats more important to you, speed or cabin comfort?
Cuz that is the only space difference... in the cabin?
And I dont know if you are looking to build a boat, but Bill(buyafountain.com) has a real nice 42x w/ 600s for sale at the right $$$.

38ZX has 9'5" beam, 6' headroom, 12,000 lb. w/side-by-side engine set-up. With 525's the boat runs right at 80mph. Also, it's running surface is roughly equivalent to the 42 Ex.

The 38 ZX is best of both worlds, full cabin spacious and with 525s about 80 mph, she is a big boat for her size tipping the scales at 12000 lbs (good rough water boat) you can sleep 4 people with the drop down table and price is cheaper then the 42 Fountain. The 38 ZR is a lower cabin set up for speed and the ZR is a Staggered boat she weighs 9200 lbs and is set up for speed at 90 mph, the 38 ZR actually is 40 ft in length they dont count the swim platform but the 38 ZR and 38 ZX are two different boats. if you need a cabin with full amenties then the 38 ZX is the boat for you. the 42 Fountain is a lower cabin then the 38 ZX and a faster boat, but the 43 Donzi ZR is actually almost 46 in length with triple 525s she is running 102 mph and with twin 900s is seeing 108 mph. If you want the ride and speed the ZRs are for you.

Re: New 38 Donzi ZX vs. 42 Executioner

Hey Guys... I really appreciate everyone's replies. I know I am probably comparing apples to oranges, because one is more of a comfort boat and the other a poker run boat. But this is the paradox that I am in.

If it came down to choosing between a comfort/ammenities performance boat (as with the Donzi 38ZX) versus a faster/better hull performance boat (as with the 42 Executioner), which would you prefer?

I'd like to hear your opinions on if you would choose speed/hull design over ammenities and cabin headroom. Thanks.

Re: New 38 Donzi ZX vs. 42 Executioner

I grew up w/ flybridge sportfisherman 38ft+ w/ 13-15ft beam, so all the fast boats seem tight inside. Plus I don't spend time in a cabin, so I'd opt for a faster boat w/ less cabin.

42 Ex because..has enough amenities to get by at most lakes, legal to tow w/o permits, faster, you could add AC & a gen later if you HAD to have it.

If you were ready for a cruiser but just not that ready to make the huge leap then the ZX would be OK but maybe you should be looking at the 42 Lightning then you have all the ameneties of zx in a faster hull.

Re: New 38 Donzi ZX vs. 42 Executioner

The Fountain does not have much headroom. I think the ZX has a standup head and a 9 foot 2 inch beam.

They are apples-oranges.

What do you want to do, stay on the boat or go fast?

42 Fountain Poker Runs (no cabins) are testing at 98 mph w/ 525's.That's fast, I don't know what the 42 Ex is teesting at since the hull changed in 2005.

A 35 ZR tested at 95 mph w/ 525's and had a stand up head I think. A 38 ZX is about an 80 mph boat w/ 525's.
