It seems the EFI and screw style superchargers have brought marine supercharging to a new level. However, I think supercharging a motor is like juicing an athlete, sure they put up big numbers but most of the time the careers are shortened by injury. :(

Re: POLL: favorite Mercury motor
Kinda hard to include the 700SC since no one has experience with it, other than seeing pictures and what not.
I like the 850SC though! |
Re: POLL: favorite Mercury motor
The 850 and 1075s are great but recommended rebuild every 100hrs is tough. The 525 is my choice because of reliability/longevity.

Re: POLL: favorite Mercury motor
We love our 525EFI's. They are very rugged and run absolutely mint with 225hrs on them! We are thinking of going with the new 700 motor in our next boat but I would have to say 525 for now because of our experience with them.

Re: POLL: favorite Mercury motor
I think the 525 is an awesome motor; its versatility with many types of boat applications is pretty much unmatched. I also like the components used in it, and it looks good too.
I also like the 850 and 1075 engines, I like the look and the lower profile with these new engines. I don't know much about the 700 obviously, but think it'll fit the gap better than that 600 does. Of all the merc. racing engines, I don't really see the point of having the 600 around, especially now with the 700 out. |
Re: POLL: favorite Mercury motor
I always loved and had no problems after going to dry exhausts with the 502/465hp.
The sound was just AWESOME!!!!!! |
Re: POLL: favorite Mercury motor
What the hell were the old school 900hp N/A Motors from Mercury called? They had 8 velocity stacks, sounded wicked, and ran way hard. I'm sure reliabilty was a factor, but that was my favorite. Second would be the 900SC. If ya ever get a chance to see one apart take a look, Mercury put some nice peices in them.
