arronow 45/42

there is an arronow 42 near me. at least i was told it was a 42 but it say 45 on the swim platform... used to have 3 engines... all now dead or gone and hull filled up w/ rainwater to adepth of about 5 ft... so interior has been submerged completely.

boat ran and drove about 2 years ago for the last time but was then scavanged for mechancals by a couple locals and then essentially abandoned by owner..

question is.... does this boat have any real intrinsic value that would make it worth restoring ? i have the skills... so would not have to pay labor costs but easily needs 80 to 100 k worth of cash to make it nice.... and not certain what it could be bought for but for sake of this discussion lets assume 20-40 k

so figure for round numbers 150 when complete... can buy some really nice boats already done for that...

so... are there any compelling reasons to consider this ?

steve,

a picture might help because there were a couple of different Aronow models built in that size range.

as far as value, if it can be had for a relatively low price and you want to build it and make it your own, it's worthwhile...provided you do the majority of the work yourself and can find power at a decent price. if you look at it from a purely "investment" or resale value, you may want to consider something else that is already done.

personally, i only consider a few boats when i'm looking...and Aronow is one of them simply because there aren't that many around and they are more of a conversaton piece than a fomula or fountain(which are also very good boats, btw) the boat has a history and a name that those who know the history of offshore powerboats, can recognize.

Lastly, and most importantly, if you do consider buying this, check the stringers, bulkheads and transom...that standing water would concern me.

it's not a Squadron, it's a aronow, they did make a 27. it's the same hull as the 28 cig, 27 mag and 27 squadron. i'll see if i can swing by the there over the weekend and take pics of it for yall

I wouldn't take it unless you can get it for free. There have been a couple of running 45's for sale recently and it looks like the going price is under 100,000. If there's that much water in it you may have structural issues and rot. When it's done, you'll have a heavy, relatively slow boat that eats a lot of gas. Sorry for the pessimism.

Re: arronow 45/42

i drained the wayer... was only in there about a month... maybe less. has termites in the interior... i don't know.... just a real shame... boat was REALLY nice when the guy bought it and interior was spectacular... now all smelly garbage...

oh well... not vevn sure if it can be bought at all... no one has seen the guy in some time.

why would you say slow ? with 1500 hp (3 x 500) i would think this is a 75 mph boat all day...if i use the same drag figure as my top gun it says its an 80 mph boat... just curious

Re: arronow 45/42

I know I'm being a little pessemistic but I just ran the numbers on the Bam speed calculater. 15000lb (3 engines, full interior, 200 gal gas, etc.) heavy v-bottom , 1500 hp will run 71 mph. A Black Thunder step bottom will do that with 2 engines. A 43 Nortech will go 90 with 3 525s. A Fountain 47 will run mid 80s with 3 500s. The only way this project would be worth it to me would be if it were cheaper than some of those newer alternatives.
