One other AC unit to consider is the Mermaid Marine Air units. They are similarly inexpensive (you can find them just as cheap if you look) and they have a 5K and 6.5K btu units that they've confirmed will run on the 1000 watt Honda, which is a bit smaller and lighter than my 2000. Their 9K unit runs on the 2000 also.

One note about the Hondas. They are "surge rated" for up to 3x their rated amps for up to 3 seconds. This is why a 2000w honda can start up a 10K btu A/C, whereas some other 2000w units can't. While I need 20-25amps at startup, the honda just revs up for a second and then settles back down to quiet mode. It actually powers a nice space heater during our 2 weeks of winter, too.

We might be in the "spectator fleet" along the route during your april poker run. While my Donzi cruiser will do 45mph on the gps, that ain't enough to mix it up with you guys. But maybe we'll catch you on the raftup. I'll be the one with the cool cabin :)

I am curious if the honda eu2000 will run one of those caryair, cary on a/c units? If not what will.

The carry on will probably run off a Honda 1000. The carry ons are 5k units.....(at least the one i had years ago was).

My 2000 runs my 7k unit, fridge, and battery charger all at the same time. I would say 2000 is overkill for a carry on.

The newer carry-ons are 7K btu's and yes a 2,000 will run it. Wouldn't bother with the 1000eu for the little money that is saved it's not worth cutting it that close.

Go with the Eu2000. It will run a home refrigerator, fan, some lights so it can also be used as backup at home. The 1000 will not run a home fridge and so there is not much of a market for them. They are usually purchased by arts and crafts people to operate dremels, lights, or a tv at the shows. We sell 100 to 1 2000's vs the 1000. Also there is a huge market for resale on 2000's.

I have installed a Cruisair 10K BTU unit two years ago and bought the Honda 2000 last year for some overnighters in the harbour. The 10btu unit will run it in the begining stages but after about 2 hours the pressures will build on the compressor and will NOT start it, so becarefull you can damage the start windings in the compressor. There is a fix though, I bought a ( HARD START KIT) from Cruisair. What it has is a solid state relay and a larger start capacitor, so when the compressor comes on it has a boost of amp draw to start with out damage.

I also have now finished mounting my Honda 2000 in the engine compartment permantlly, will have pics shortly, works very well and dont have to worry about it falling of in the middle of the night or rain. Simply start and enjoy.
