NJ Boat Safety Test Out-Option (limited time only)

1 Attachment(s)
If you are a power vessel operator with at least 100 hours of operating experience and you were born prior to 1979 you may attempt to pass an approved boating safety exam without completing a boating safety course. You may only attempt to pass this exam one time, if you are successful on your first attempt you will be issued a boating safety certificate. If you are unsuccessful on your first attempt you cannot take the exam again, you will have to complete an approved boating safety course and then pass an exam as part of the course to receive a boating safety certificate.

The test-out-option expires on June 1, 2008, after this date boating safety certificates will only be issued after the successful completion of a boating safety course and a written examination.

This may be answered out on that link, but I'll ask now anyway. :D
I've asked at least a dozen people if this is the same "Safety Certificate" I got a few years back when they started requiring them for PWC's. Nobody has known the answer.
Anyone? Bueller?

The answer is yes... it is the same 'wallet sized' certificate.

Thanks Dan. After I posted this, I checked all over that site, and the answer still isn't clear there.
I also noticed how convenient those three State Police testing locations are for those of us who live at the shore.

I called the NJ State Police Marine Services 3 weeks ago and asked that same question. They not only confirmed that the boating safety certificate is the same cert. I received when I got my 'waverunner' license, but also send me a duplicate free of charge.

I highly recommend applying another layer of clear laminate over the entire cert. as the front & back come laminated, but not the sides.

Dan

BTW, I live in Bergen County and will be heading down to my shore house in Toms River tomorrow evening. If you or anyone else down the shore wants to get together for a few drinks this weekend, send me a pm and we'll exchange #'s.

I need to make that call too. Not only is my certificate getting pretty chewed up, it also has my address from three houses ago.
As for the drinks, I might be up for heading out somewhere tomorrow night. I'll shoot you a pm tomorrow if so. Already have reservations for sat. night for my anniversary.
