Re: Does fogging oil foul spark plugs?

I've just turned the key off for the last 20 yrs and changed the oil and filter and never had any issue.

Mercury Marine Fogging Oil is my personal favorite as the chemistry is designed to displace moisture very well.

The whole idea of fogging is that it helps protect against rust and corrosion during seasonal storage periods. Helps protect metal surfaces (cylinder walls, pistons, rings, valve guides, and intake system components) against moisture and humidity. Displaces water to help prevent damage from moisture accumulation.

Usually 2 ounces is all you would ever use and fouling should be minimal. Often times too much is used and then fouling is a big concern..

I am not one to use ATF for fogging...and would say to stick with a MARINE SPECIFIC fogging oil.
Here is what is in ATF fluid...

ATF typically contains the following components:
    Sludge & varnish control
    Prohibit oxidationAntiwear
Planetary gear, bushing, thrust washer protection
    Friction modifier
Modify clutch plate and band friction
    Corrosion inhibitor
    Prevent corrosion and rust
    Seal swell agent
Prevent loss of fluid via seals
    Viscosity Improver
Reduce rate of change of viscosity
The only problem I see using ATF is its not sticky enough and will dissipate. And guaranteed to foul plugs.Back when i raced on methonal we put a little in to lube everything because of the methonal being dry.

I also like the Merc fogging oil .Thats what it made for
