The X dim. is the normal stock mounting height of the drive. raising the x dim. raises the drive. Raising the drive means you don't have to trim as high to cavitate the prop for max speed. Also with a higher drive height your not wasting HP pushing the transom deeper into the water. The only possible problem with the higher drive height is loss of crusing speed due to prop slippage.

1979 30' ScarabII T454/330 with Hardin P-1000 offshore exhaust's, holley intakes and carbs, best speed to date,66mph on gps with 3/4 tank of fuel, not to bad for a classic....usually boat out of Muskegon on Lake Michigan, boat is for sale now dealing on another Wellcraft ....Fred

675hp 540 /w CMI headers,dry pipes
best speed to date 80.1 gps
I want to put 12 set back box w/2" shorter
Imco lower , hopefully I will pick up another
3-4mph .
