Post Cigarette question

The boat, not the cancer stick. This is NOT off topic

I think Warlock Dave got me thinking...I was checking out the OSO classifieds and happed to look at the Cigarette section.

What is the differece in a 38 Top Gun from say 1990, 1995 and 1998? When did they go to the TS hull again? I fell asleep there.

Did they lighten the hulls at a certain time, or make a cabin change, or anything?

So, for Dave, if he buys a 1992 boat or a 1997 or a 1987 (assuming it's a 38, since that's probably easiest to compare, 35's might ne also), what's the main difference?

Just looking back intheNADA boo Cig hulls are progressively geting lighter. Better layups and materials are the cause. Its nice to see R&D money actualy making a difference as opposed to just being tacked on to the price of aboat year to year without any changes being made. With the TS model we lost the Pleasure Cabin and went to the Cover Girl Cabin. Some people really miss the larger cabin area. Others miss the no-step hull. I have actualy had about as many clients ask for a no step hull as I have for a stepped. As near as I can tell the Cigs just keep getting Better, Faster and Lighter. The company has been putting out some impressive products (and no, I dont get paid to say that!!!)

So, what about, say a 1990 Top Gun and 1996 Top gun? Anybody know the weight of each with similar power/drive combo? 200 was the big change year, but what about the 90's?

IDRPSTF, I've read on this board that the reason they do not offer a full cabin and a stepped hull is weight distribution. Does Cig have any plans on changing that? A lot of other builders can put the two together. Next boat I buy will have both, and I would think there are other people with the same opinion...

87-88' Topguns have the old cabin layout and the transom is not notched. The 8" notched transom I believe was added in 89' which helped the bow ride higher and kept you drier from water spray it was also good for 1mph or so. 92' was the first year for the new cabin layout(full cabin) that is still offered today. Recently their is the half or covergirl cabin that comes with the stepped hulls. Cig. brochure says a full cabin 38' weights in at 9900#. A kevlar layup claims to be 5-600#'s less or 93-9400#'s. The newer lay-up Cigs are much lighter yet due to materials and half cabins. Their is a significant difference between the 35 and 38 especially the 92 and later models. If you are interested in a 38 I recommend a 92 or later. Also resale is better.

Hope this helps
