1 Attachment(s)
I am SOL .I was trying to take the prop off and the teeth on the lock itself broke off  The key is fine.Is there a trick besides a torch, air chisel or cut off wheel to get them off ?
With out damaging the threads of the shaft  Thanks for any suggestions. Rob |

Rob,
I would say that the cut-off wheel is probobly the way I would go, you can cut it ~50% on 2 sides and then try to GENTLY pry to 2 pieces of the nut off the prop shaft! Man, that really sucks, it gives new meaning to THEFT -PROOF! Good luck, Dean |

Tap a large socket over the lock, and turn off. It might trash a socket, but it should grip enough to remove.

Thanks Dean..
What about the Stainless ring/collar that surrounds the lock nut ?? I believe the nut is brass??? I was thinking the air cut off wheel would be to big to get in there?? Thanks Rob |

Try a Dremel tool and cut it off.

Paint the prop gold, and set it on the street corner. I am sure there are some fine young men in Jackson to remove it for you :evilb:
Sorry for your misfortune Rob :( Are you going to PicWick? |
Re: How Can I Get A McGard Prop Lock OFF ????
I used a dremel to cut off mine when I lost the key. Like Dean said, cut it down each side and pry it off.

Re: How Can I Get A McGard Prop Lock OFF ????
Can't ya get one of your chicks to suck it off  :D The brass nut is soft, I would try the socket over it first, it sounds much easier than the cut off wheel. Does it have a nylon insert, like a lock nut? If so you could melt that out and it might turn easier. The best way is to drop the lower, remove the prop shaft and replace the prop and the shaft and be done with it. :D
