Default Rtech Supercharged Bulldog 540 ... 850 HP!

Recently installed by Speedmaster Marine (north of Toronto) on a stock Mercury 540 - 500 HP engine, stock cast iron heads, stock hydraulic flat tappet cam, stock Thunderbolt ignition. Rtech supercooler with Vortech V-4 blower and Nickerson carb. The only tuning required was adjusting fuel pressure and reducing plug gap. Tested yesterday at Active engines in Toronto on their Land & Sea dyno.

The result was 804 observed HP @ 5400 RPM with 90F air entering the blower due to its position above the hot dyno headers. This corrects to 850 HP at standard conditions (60F)for comparison with other dyno results.

This engine is going into a 27 Fountain. Hang on!

I will post the HP graph when I get it.

NICE! Looks like it sits high, would there be some clearance issues?

What is the cost of this conversion?

The box is no higher than the stock flame arrestor on this engine, but the height carries forward more so you have to check. It's not usually a problem because engine hatches/sunpads are generally higher at the front. The blower drive belt sticks out another 2" in front of the engine. Retail on this system is $6900.00.

Plug gap was a hair under 0.040" to start. It was OK on the first pull (with new plugs), but then it started laying down above 4500, then above 4000. You could hear it missing. We thought fuel pressure, then rev limiter then maybe cooked wires on the headers. When we checked the plugs, they looked fine, maybe #5 was a little different. Dropped the gap to 0.030" on all plugs and we were back in business. This is a stock ignition, no MSD or similar booster, so too much gap was a problem.

I like the package! Now there is an alternative to the Whipplecharger. What is the warranty? How many hours to install?

Thats cool. So I guess it was having trouble lighting that fire I wonder if a MSD would made any power with the wider gap??

That Bulldog 540 combo should make for a very long life package. Nice job Tom!

The R-tech system has proven itself very well. I've been flogging an R-tech 509 (in a 250 Baja) going on 4 seasons now with no problems at all. 800 hp in a 25 Baja is pretty fun!

Boost without heat is the key!

I picked up the dyno printout today. These are the observed HP numbers at a blower inlet temp of 90F.
