Ordering new boat
We are changing our ski boat, runabout so have been looking at the 2002 Crownline 202Br LPX. Has the new 6.2 Mercruiser at 320 hp and a bravo 1 drive. It has all the sport options, all for $36000.00 plus tax etc. Has anyone got one and what do you think. Dealer seems to think it will do about 65 mph out of the box.

Mark,
I've met up with Crownline owners on our area lakes. I think they are nice boats for the money you spend. $36K seems a bit pricey, and 65 mph seems a bit optimistic. I would go to www.crownline.com and browse the owners forum. It's very active and you will learn all you need to know about powertrain options. Keep in mind this is a lake boat. High speed and chop don't mix. Greg |
36K for a 20FT Crown? YIKES! Either they've become a little too pricey for their own good or some dealer is making a serious killing! You may want to check out used if that's the case as I've seen 202's a year or two old for around 20K with 350 Mags more then once in our area.
As far as seeing 65MPH out of the box I suggest you be happy if it'd hit a honest 60-61. I've run with many Crowns 202 and 225's and even with a 454MPI the 202 barely will sqeeze a consistent 60MPH. They look sharp but even with big power the hull doesn't respond very well if speed is your game. :( |
I have 4 brand new Sanger Ski Boats on my lot for roughly the same price or less. Sean

Frequency,
Thanks for the crownline link. It seems your all about right, 60 is the magic number, maybe its the wide beam. So what do I buy if my wife and kids want a bow rider and i want something sharp that can also perform. Thanks in advance. Mark |
If I were you, I`d contact Stinson about that 27 Fountain. For almost the same $$ you could be stylin big time! :D
And the boat would still be worth what you paid 2 or 3 yrs. down the road! Just my .04, Kurt. |

Just curios. What would you let a 212 Islander go for with 375 hp and what speed do they get. I am about to demo the crownline Monday and place an order. Call me 650 465-9157. Mark |
I own a 225br crownline and love it, but it only does around 60 with a 350 efi brovo 3 drive. This is what I can say is that crownline does stand behind there products when it comes to and warranty issuses. They will do anything to keep YOU happy. I would spend the extra money and get the dual prop set up plus as much power you can afford. I dream about getting a go-fast boat with twin engines now.
E-mail me you want more info. |
I have an older 196 with a 350 Mag - Alpha 1. Tops out at maybe 55. I don't have a GPS, and the speedo only works every other month or so. It also doesn't handle the chop in the bay very well. Better suited for a lake, in my opinion. It's for sale, by the way, for a whole lot less than 36K.

A friend of mine has 2000 202 with 454/300 and it runs about 60-61mph and doesn'tlike anything more than a 1 foot chop. The only problem I see is that the value of the boat will drop 10k over 3 years. You would be a lot better off to get a slightly used one for a lot less money. BTW I also had a 196BR Crownline. I would not go back after having a bigger boat(24 Outlaw). The Outlaw even handles better around the docks.
