Default How Many Hours are Too Many???

Hey guys I found a 30ft Baja boat from 1996 with 503 hrs on it, is that just way to many hours. It has Mercruiser motors, I was just curious if its worth looking into it looks like i could get a good deal on it there asking 48k for it. Let me know what you guys think.

Thanks for the help in Advance
John

It all depends on maintnence. Have they ever been rebuilt?

Figure what it will cost you to rebuild the motors. If your happy with the total cost of the boat AND rebuilds then go get it.

People put way too much weight on engine hours - what's worse?? wide open for 100 hours or run at 3000 RPM for 500 hours - give me the 500 hour motor in that case. If it has 500 hours on it - you know it's probably honest and if it has 500 hours probably taken care of and will last alot longer..especially if it's a stock Merc engine - if it's HP500 only replace valve springs and then rock and roll

What does it run to get a rebuild done, they are stock 7.4 Mercruisers, the rest of the boat looks very clean and I would like to hope that, that is a sign of the rest of the boat. Also what kind of tests should be done before making a purchase other than a compression test.

Thanks John

48g , it's worth a professional survey isn't it ? Your insurance co. will most likely want one anyway.

I looked at a 302 Baja 270 hrs. 1997 it was in great shape. It was down in Springfield Il. It is worth a look, I'm not sure where you can find the add, I think boat trader online. you won't be disappointed. It had purple and red checkered graphics.
