Question is then ... who makes OPTIMA? It looks very similar to the EXIDE linked above. But I don't know $h!t about batteries and my EXIDEs are dead after a year so prob. not.

I have to agree with Shorgasm that the Duralast is by far the best Cheap battery out there. Look at the test that they do and then try to justify a $200 battery. The 1000 Series 27 duralast is better than almost any competitor and will give you about 4 to 5 years of great service. I have owned almost every brand out there, including Diehard, Optima, and Interstate, which are all good to great batteries, but when price is a factor, they do not compete.

I use optima batteries in my cars and have in my boats and the only complaint I have is if one does die you have to trickle charge the battery. Lately I will say I have had one battery which was a red top battery go bad after only two months of usage. Other then that the marine batteries I never had much of a problem with,except when I did kill them I had to remove them from the boat and trickle charge them and put other batteries in the boat that day to go boating.

I have 4 Optima Blue Tops, in a twin engine boat, with 3 amps and a capacitor among other things powering the stereo. I have been very pleased with my Optimas.

Not sure what ones you have, but not charging properly will take years off your batteries. Here is a link on how to charge EXIDES.

I to was pleased with my optimas the only reason they died were my fault of leaving something on for a week, other then that they powered LED's and amps and never had any problems, but like I said if they did die and you were ready to hit the water you were SOL. You really needed to charge them properly.

Anyways ...

1. Boat is still in the water but will be on a work stand tomorrow night so I can get the motors flushed. I'll prob. be there around 5:30 or so if you can/want to come by.

2. I pulled the two old batteries out ... they were gel-cell EXIDEs and look like there are still under the "18 month money-back" guarantee. They have May 05 manufacturing stickers on them. I'll just have to find a place that sells EXIDE and explain the situation. I did get one of those rechargable jump-start boxes just in case.

Optima makes their own batteries and use other companies such as Interstate to distirbute them. They are a very well made unit. I pay close attention when I am working in the feild as to which type of battery I normally see in a juck pile and how old it is, I have to say that you rarley see an optima under 3-4 years come back. That was enogh for me to put down the bucks on a couple for my boat!!
