Here are some more shots of the famous 36 Cigarette. The two boat shot is showing Tom Gentry, number 99, winning his first race against Bill Wishnick.

The single boat is Bill Wishnick in his 36 Cigarette. I will find some shots of Lady Nara that we have too.

Happy to hear of your book, we have been tossing around ideas for a photo type coffee table book with a few comments with each photo like our HORBA website.
Very beautiful the second picture of Boss O'Nova III.
The first pictures I knew so well because it was published in Searace.
A precisation to first picture: that is Boss O'Nova II and was a Cigarette(not a Cary) 32' that Wishnick used in some races in USA and in the European tour in 1971. The 36' Boss O'Nova III was used in other races in USA.

The book of Bertram 38' that I prepare is just a pictures-datas one, that I will offer free in a file on cd to who will be interest to have.
I will be happy to give you it so.

Re: Cigarette 36' Competition

The Lady Nara(s) was two Cigarette 36'.
The first was one of the first 36'( the third or fourth 36'built)in 1971.
It went to the legend when triumphed in the famous CTC of 1971 in very rough seas.
The crew was A.Petroni(steering)-F.Statua(throttle)-R.Bonelli
(owner-navigator).
In 1972 the young Bonelli bought a second 36' that named Lady Nara again.
With it he won the European and Italian Championships.
At the end of the season Bonelli sold the two Lady Naras.
The first to Count Gilberti that renamed it Lady Mate.
The second to Giulio De Angelis that renamed it Eraf like the him first 36'. One was in pale blue, and the former Lady Nara remain in red-white colours.
In 1974 Gilberti lease him 36' to Blasetti that renamed it Talvez, then in 1976 the boat returned tio Gilberti like "F.Eight".
The boat raced until 1977.
Now is to sell in Sardinia.
The second Lady Nara was disarmed in 1975 and become a fast cruiser with a wodden deck, porthole and berth, but manteining the original colours in the hull and the name Eraf.
It went lost in 1980 off the Viareggio coast after burning.

Re: Cigarette 36' Competition

Great thread!.........

The 36 Cigarette (competition) and 27 Magnum (Sport) are my favorite offshore boats of all time.

The 36 is a masterpiece!

Re: Cigarette 36' Competition

Lucky Strike Jr.
I never see that boat !
Do you know something of this "Baccarat"?
Driver-owner?year?
Do you have others of this?
I think this was the former one of the two Balestrieri's Black Tornadoes,Cig.36'.With them race in 1972-1973,then in 1974 Balestrieri sold one of this and continued to race with the other, only in Italy, in 1974-75.
The Black Tornado was the first 36' ever built. The second was Bob Magoon's Aeromarine I.

Re: Cigarette 36' Competition

Hi Black Tornado:
Did you ever see the book DON ARONOW: King of Thunderboat Row;
That book has great pictures of many of Don's 36s from the 70s plus some great stories about V. Balestrieri and F. Cosentino.

I don't know anything about that boat, but it is probably an old Black Tornado renamed.

This photo is of Bill McDonald's "Wild Willie" which is an old Boss A Nova, 36 Foot Cigarette. You and Marco probably have not seen this one either over there.

Re: Cigarette 36' Competition

Very grateful Charlie - you are right I have never seen any photo´s before of this boat in this livery. (I have to say that it is very reminiscent of the Magoon KAM in those colours!). Thanks for posting.
