Default Ideal props for 2006 Donzi 38 ZR 525's?

Finally got a chance to take the new Donzi 38 ZR/525's out and quickly realized it's a total dog out of the hole. Very disappointing hole shot with 5 blade 31p herings. Any recommendations on other props to try with this boat. I happen to have a set of 30p Bravo I's, how would these work? Willing to sacrifice a little on top to pick up hole shot. Any other recommendations would be great??

Of course I'm comparing this to the hole shot and acceleration of a 36 Outlaw with 575's that snaps your head back, but still wasn't expecting such a big difference.

Off the top of my head I would recommend the 5 blade Merc maxiums. I think Pier 57 has sold a few 38 zr's. Have you tried calling them?

What kind of top end are you seeing with the herings?

We were on the Missouri River, so it wasn't really in ideal conditions with the smooth water and the current which throws off the gps. The true test will be loto water conditions, with some good chop and no current. I believe it's a 90-92 mph boat when all stretched out.

I'm not sure the Maximus would help the hole shot. The 5 blade props like to grab more, which keeps the motors out of thier torque band and seems to keep it sluggish getting on plane. It's definitely propped for top end that's for sure. The 38 ZR also has a high x dimension which might be part of it too.

I have the exact same boat.I'm running Herring 31s. Do you have Extension boxes? From what I understand, this is key. This boat without the ITS and extension boxes is a dog out of the hole. I use a bit of trim tab, just below neutral position, and bring up the throttles slowly. Once you hear the props begin to rev, back off the throttles a touch and she will get right up.

I kno wthat Donzi has had some success recently with the Maximus props, but they aren't to the same point as the herirngs yet.

Yes, it has the Merc ITS/Sportmaster setup with 31p herings. We experimented with running the tabs down to about 6 or 7 on gauge and this helped. And yes you must ease back a bit when props lose bite when boat rolls over then get back into them once it rolls over and hooks up.

My big question is, are there any better props for this boat to enhance hole shot and mid-range punch? Willing to give up some top end. Are 5 blade props a must on this boat? I thought maybe with 4 blade bravos the props would slip a bit to get the 525's into their torque band and liven up the hole shot a bit. Have you tried any other props?

I haven't found anything much better. I tried the Maximus and the Herrings. I'm not sure that a 4 blade Bravo would get up very well at all. Mostly it's the staggered setup that taks some getting used to.

I do know that the Outerlimits i our group with the staggered setupo have the same sluggish start.

In the long run, the better balance of the staggered engines allow you to makle up the time pretty quickly.
