Re: 3 Manatees Found Dead In St. Johns ....
A second letter in the editorials this morning1
Count manatee births and they're doing fine
FLORIDA TODAY on June 6 ran yet another anti-citizen, pro-manatee zone editorial. You start off with how many manatees died last year in total, and how many were killed by watercraft.
If we follow the same methodology for humans that you use for determining the state of the manatee population, it would appear that the human race is endangered since many millions died last year.
Of course, when you count births, it turns out both populations are fine. Your editorial board should make at least a token attempt at fact-gathering.
Manatees are not endangered. Boaters aren't responsible for the great majority of manatee deaths.
Manatee zones have not made any significant impact in the percentage or numbers of manatee deaths by watercraft, they just restrict citizens from access to their public waterways.
The Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission understands this, and has the science to back it up. You have a group of emotional, science-be-damned environmentalists backing you up.
Shame on you.
