For those that have never attended or actually run a boat in the Shootout.
It is the worst for getting an accurate speed measurement. They have fixed radar guns mounted on the shoreline. Unless you are able to run exactly dead ( which can put you on the rocks) at them your speed is skewed. I've been through it with the video pointed at the GPS and speedo clearly showing 150 MPH only to have the radar gun register 139. On top of that you have the occasional Sea Ray roller coming down the course where you'll have to pull back right when you're approaching the gun. What Callan has done has been tremendous on that course, however it is unfair to compare boat speeds run on sanctioned kilos or elsewhere to those at the Shootout. TS |

I have heard the same. Smaller boats or ones not running big numbers can run closer. Running over 150 right around the rocks does not sound like a good idea. I would really like to attend this event one year. With a little more HP I would run.
