Dockominiums--very pricey

This is what Rattlefish Pointe in Tampa is going to become. A 30' x 12' x 10' storage slot for my CCF is $125,000 PLUS a $275/month "maintenance fee". Beautiful facility and great location but this prices boating out of reach if it becomes the rule. Alos heard that Lazzarra and the other boat builders on that street have sold out as have other business across from Rattlefish and area is to become condo's and gated high end single family so some more waterfront and water access is lost to the public. Next the county will sell the Gandy boat ramp to a developer and that will ned boating in that part of Tampa unless you are a member of the "luck sperm club" and inherited enough to afford that lifestyle.. |

tow rig, fuel, insurance, 125 thousand dollar docking! buying the boat sure seems like the cheap part these days

Re: Dockominiums--very pricey
375, you got that right! Buying the boat is the easy and cheap part. Dockage/Storage, Fuel, Insurance and Maintance is making boating not an enjoyable experience for many. I love boating but this is making owning a Porsche or like car and doing track days with the local club and such seem extremely cheap! I know this has pushed some people right out of boating or at least having medium sized or big boats.

How about boating in the rainy northeast. It,s almost July and my boat has been out twice!! At least you guys get to use your boats. It,s really ridiculous adding up the $$ numbers here!

Thats nucking futs
I keep boating in the Midwest. For about another 25k you can get a 2br/2b condo at LOTO with a 30 foot slip and lower monthly maint fees. No hurricanes, cheaper insurance, no salt issues, etc. Of course the draw back is a 5 month season, but that gives me time to save up for the next season. |
Re: Dockominiums--very pricey
So rattlefish is closing? I better make it over there to eat there once before they do...

They said 15 to 20 months to actual completion of facility but have sold almost 60 slips so far.

Yeah, there is more and more waterfront access disappearing everyday in FLORIDA! And actually, our boating costs have stayed pretty reasonable, insurance only went up $18 this year, (Thank you Bob L @ Worldwide! :D ), no storage or boat ramp fees, (That boat ramp fee thing in Cali, was annoying) and our boat gets good gas mileage, (502 MPIs) so.... I can't complain. :drink: Just too busy these days to boat as much as we used to. I don't think I could ever give up boating, it's GREAT family time for us, and it's the only time I really sit down and relax! :drink: :D
Dean PS, and I can complain about something, I want to get a new BOAT! Somebody please buy our boat! :D |
