ive been there bye boat and stayed at champlains marina on the great salt pond,GREAT PLACE. You must make reservations plenty in advance. they have everything you need right there at the marina.the hotel has water veiws. And down at the end of the dock is a nice tiki bar. I highly reccomend staying there especially if you take your boat.

I second what Tuffenuff said. I've stayed @ the National in Old harbor and Champlains in a suite. Champlains the best by far.

Spring House Hotel
Some of the best food on the Island.
You can not beat appetizers on the lawn at sunset. The Blackened Ahi Tuna is my favorite.
Chilled Seafood Salad
Poached tender chunks of squid, shrimp and scallops, served chilled, marinated in a basil and shallot vinaigrette, served in a bed of Boston bib lettuce
Grilled Wygu Skirt Steak with Baby Arugula Mango, Chevre and Spiced Walnuts
Sliced skirt steak, chipotle pepper and balsamic marinated, served with a blended salad Of arugula, mango, goat cheese and spiced walnuts
Steamed PEI Mussels
Rope grown mussels steamed with julienne of carrots, celery, and onion in a white wine and natural jus broth, finished with parsley butter, served with roasted garlic rubbed artisan bread
Maryland Style Crab Cakes
Two (2) lump crab meat cakes cast iron seared served with a yellow beet and jicama slaw With cilantro, lime aioli
New England Clam Chowder
Classic New England clam chowder, garnished with crispy bacon and chives
Blackened Ahi Tuna
Twelve spice seared sushi grade tuna sliced and served with traditional sides of house made pickled ginger, wakami salad, wasabi horseradish and soy sauce
Apple Smoked Bacon Wrapped Scallops
Five (5) jumbo seas scallops wrapped in apple wood bacon and pan fried crisp, finished with a espresso and maple glaze, served with watercress greens
Steamed Littleneck Clams with Chorizo Sausage White Beans and Lemon Verbena
Native littleneck clams simmered in a light broth of white wine, Fall River chorizo, White beans and lemon verbena, served with basil pesto brushed artisan bread
Crispy Fried Point Judith Calamari
Tender local calamari rings and tentacles lightly breaded and fried, tossed in the traditional R.I. manner with cherry peppers and garlic, served with a side of marinara and lemon

if you are going by boat, avoid Champlains like the plague!
Champlains rafts everyone up, so you'll have people walking all over your boat at all hours of the day and night!
Try and get a spot at the Boat Basin, but unless you reserve 6 months in advance, there's no guarantee. Maybe Paynes dock also...
I also prefer to stay away from Ballards and Old Harbor... It's a little rowdy for my taste...and forget trying to spend the night there...you won't sleep...you'll be wakened by the sound of people fornicating on your sunpad
Dead Eye Dicks has good food and we always go to the National...

Re: Block Island hotel recommendations needed
geezes I haven't been to block in 12 years , we would go to old harbor and anchor 1 in front and 1 in back up by the break water no rafting. do they not do that anymore and me and the wife would sleep on the baja. it was right before my daughter was born I was thinking of going back in aug, used the showers at the basin where the sportfishers tie up.
