Brian....... Have you ever buried anybody?

Yes racing is dangerous...but racing without taking every safety precaution is both dangerous...and stupid.

Nope...as soon as they don't win...most of them will accuse others of cheating...demand more classes to suit their particular boat and engine....and go back to the garage.

We don't need whiners....we need real racers.

Clark Donnely was a friend of mine and his death really effected me. I was in Largo , FL unpacking my car at a motel when Cheryl Smith called me screaming " Clark is dead". I had just shelled out alot of money to buy the boat company and was building a new F1 Boat. I walked right up to a stranger and told him I needed to talk to somebody , it was tragic. Racing is dangerous period. Canopies fail too. I'm not going there. I'm not one bit hesitant to get in a 75 mph F1 Boat , definitely wouldn't hesitate to get in a 38 Cig that ran 80. I've raced much faster boats and the speed reduction would be a break. It's my opinion , you have yours and anybody else can chime in. Let's keep it clean and informitive!

Damn, this thread has pulled T2X out into the open!
What are the basics of the racing from the old days?
Speed - maybe 75mph
Water - typically rough
Boats - long and skinny
Money shot - flying out of the water

What grabs the attention of spectators?
Loud boats
Action
BALLS

All this talk and discussion and what? There seemed to be more interest and spectators in the old days when it was simple and challenging.

Just some thoughts - BUT, maybe we can't live in the past?

just imagine 20 boats side by side![QUOTE]

It is just that Imaginable, Unfortunately you will not get 20 f-1 boats to race side by side. pulling old boats out of the wood work to race this style isnt practical either, the factories didnt really support it why do you think they will now?? In todays racing unless you have the latest and greatest your not going to be competitive. In SVL most boats are 8 years old, but all have been modified from being A-class to be competitive in SVL.
Again I know its only a poll, but all those that vote for the open boats how many will be racing ?? sure they like to watch it but do they want to spend $100K and do it? I think the answer is obvious with the current state of F-1 and F-2.

Time to make a Joker with a LID!!!!

This is my annual rant on the subject...than I go back to my cave.

What are the basics of the racing from the old days?
Speed - maybe 75mph
Umm, let's see....... in 1986 Our Jesse James Conquest was running about 125...in competition.
In 1983 Willie Diaz averaged 100 mph for a 30 mile leg in the ocean.

Water - typically rough
yup..... no doubt

Boats - long and skinny
Up until 1979 true....but...largest fleets were in 1986.....long after cats started to dominate.....yet long prior to VEE bottom boat manufacturer/sponsors skewing the classes and results.

Money shot - flying out of the water
Actually it is the much more rare image of a boat passing another one (or---- really rare----two).

What grabs the attention of spectators?
Loud boats
Action
BALLS
You left out sex, drugs and rock and roll. In truth nobody wants to see a bunch of random noise and chaos....except people on meth...People want to see a logical competition.

All this talk and discussion and what? There seemed to be more interest and spectators in the old days when it was simple and challenging. Just some thoughts - BUT, maybe we can't live in the past?
Simple is the key word here.

Spectators will watch a field of all canopied or all non canopied boats...no matter...... But they can't watch (endure?) a dozen variations of both.
