Holding tank solutions...

I am looking for a different solution, and the holding tank in my boat is really small. I am going to pull out the whole system (my macerator has an electrical issue) I am thinking of going to this bladder (no peanut gallery comments please) system.

Docmanrich37 installed one in his 37, but he is the only person I know with this product, and I was just looking for more input. His is working great, and he is happy with it, but before I invest the time, money, and not so pleasant effort, I would like to hear more experiences if they are out there.

Thanks in advance.

Snail-boats have been using bladder-tanks forever. Just make sure it's well anchored into it's space.

Re: Holding tank solutions...

I had one in my big boat for a while. I would not recommend it. First they let more stink through than a hard tank. I also had a problem with clogging the vent line. At times when the tank is empty the vent line (on top) will collapse against the bottom. If there is TP on the bottom it gets into the vent line and then dries-you are then screwed. Try and stick with a hard tank if you can. I went overboard when I redid the big boat and used almost all Sched 40 PVC pipe with angles and small pieces of hose on the ends to mate the head and tank. Absolutely no holding tank smell at all in the boat.

Actually, it's not usually the tank that gets the stink-on(although after a decade or so, it's certainly possible); it's more often than not, incorrect type or low-quality sanitation hoses that provide the ambiance, regardless of the boat's method of propulsion.

Toss it over with the bilge pump!!! I hated having the crapper on my boat. People would use it then I would have to clean it. NOTHING in this world is worse!!!  So I just removed it. Amazing that if it is not on the boat people will make due with out it and plan around them.....

I am not going to get rid of it, it works well. The boat came with only a 6 gallon tank which really isn't much. I don't mind dealing with cleaning it; and its only me or my guest that use it. I have to pull out the actual head to TS the electrical issue. I know the one way valve that keeps anything from flowing back into the toilet bowl needs replaced, and I have a new one. While I am in there, I want to go ahead and get the bladder system to upgrade the capacity, and hopefully deal with less odors.
