Default Used boat values and engine hp

When looking up used boat values what hp do you enter for a HP500? There is a BIG difference in value between 470 and 500hp!

I thought a 500HP was around 470-480 HP?

A 500HP is rated at 500 at the crank and 470 at the prop. So, do you enter 470 or 500 when getting boat values?

Hmmm? Dunno...I never did very well on multiple choice.

What about a 502 Mag? They are rated for 415HP at the prop correct? Why can we quote this engine for values or insurance at prop HP and the 500HP has to be quoted at the crank?

I've just always thought of it as a 480HP or so engine.

Oh for insurance I would think it's always 470hp!

For values it's confusing since all the black motors are prop hp and the blue motors are crank hp. And there is a BIG difference between 426-470hp and 471-500hp!

Use the 471-500hp number.

Book value is only an estimate anyway and is for banks to use. They should also include hours as a factor to determine the value of a boat. The same boat with 500 hours on a set of 500's is worth a lot less than one with 200hrs.

Griff, I understand it's just a guide. I was just wondering what engine hp numbers to use to set the baseline. Thanks.

So, another question. With a 502 Mag MPI(415 pshp) do you use 400-425hp or 426-470hp since technically the motor has 445 crank hp?

I emailed NADA so hopefully they can clarify. Based on their website I think you always enter the ENGINE hp. Meaning a 502 Mag would be 445. But I want to be sure.
