I hope to make it.
Is there going to be a NOT-Rediculously Over-powered <= 30' class? :D |

95 South from Baltimore. Take the Beltway down toward Springfield. I recommend the Eastern side of the Beltway when towing, so come down the "Inner Loop". Once on 95 South again, head south from Springfrield to Woodbridge. Best place to launch is at Leesylvania State Park, in Woodbridge, VA. http://www.dcr.state.va.us/parks/leesylva.htm Head SE out of the park toward the powerlines. You will see the channel on the far side of the River. Follow the channel directly South about 20 miles down the Potomac. The channel is easy to follow, and its not necessary to be in the channel, but it at least keeps you on course. As you begin to see land directly in front of you, the River is going to turn East toward the bay. The River and the Channel are going to head east, but you just keep heading directly South toward the land you see. There will be a restaurant and a gathering of boats there. Its called www.tims2.com That's where the Radar Shoot will be. The gathering of boats will be a few hundred yards south of the channel. As long as the weather is clear two days before the event, there should not be much debris in the River. Just watch out for a couple of moored barges near the Powerlines as you come out of Leesylvania State Park. There will be progressively more crab pots as you head south. As you leave the breakwater at Leesylvania State Park, you may see the water is only 5-6 feet deep or so. Its not a big deal. Just idle out a couple hundred feet before you come on plane. The rest of the river is 10-35 feet deep. Trip down the river is easy as pie; much easier than it sounds above. Just get to the channel and head south until you see a bunch of people. You're there. Map below is accurate. The Red Star is Tims2. You will be launching from just above Dumfries. Actually the powerlines run across the river at Dumfries. Woodbridge/Leesylvania State Park is just a mile or so up the river from Dumfries. http://www.tims2.com/files/map1.gif |

Personally, I hate I-95. If you want to stay on the Maryland side, your best bet is to go to Goose Bay Marina... http://www.goosebaymarina.com/
Directions from the North Follow US 301, South Intersection of US 301 & Rt. 6 (La Plata, MD), turn right on Rt. 6 (West) Continue on Rt. 6, approx. 5.5 miles, turning left on Blossom Point Road (Goose Bay sign on roadway) Follow Blossom Point Road 1.6 miles, turning left on Brentland Road. Continue on Brentland Road 1 mile, then turn right on Goose Bay Lane. Follow Goose Bay Lane to the store (on left). Be careful, there are speed bumps on this road. Leave Goose Bay, hang a right and a right and you will run into Tim's II. B&P |

I will be leaving Goose bay Marina also...probably around 7:45. Anyone out of the area can follow me if they woule like.

Re: radar run on the Potomac
Yup, I launch at Goose Bay too. If you are coming from Baltimore 43Thunder's directions are the ticket.
Sydwayz's directions are good too but it's a longer drive with MUCH more possibility of being caught up in traffic. There's a few places to stay in Laplata if you come down Friday night or don't feel like driving home on Sat. |
Re: radar run on the Potomac
Guys, thanks for the input and directions. I am only coming as a spectator and fan. Which way is best if I am not towing my boat?
