I am sure many from the Great Lakes would agree that if a race was brought there, they wouldn't want to call it Lake racing.... :drink: :D

Now if I make no sense with this at all, just look at what time I am posting this....... :drink:

And Sharkey, doesn't the term "Offshore" in its basic term simply mean, "off of the shore" or "in the water"??? Ocean or Lake, racing boats must ALWAYS be raced, "Offshore or Off the Shore"... Just my thoughts on the subject...

There's nothing wrong with calling it like you see it. While I'm not a fan of racing on flat water in an Offshore Boat, there are some lake races which have proved to be very bumpy (here in the Great Lakes area).

As far as the race being streamed live, that is awesome. Although for Destin, it should be well advertised IN ADVANCE with a link or directions clearly posted. All in all, good job.

The next step is getting accurate viewer numbers. Does anybody know how many viewer can watch a webcast?

Don't get me wrong....I'm not about to jump into a race seat, but I certainly know many people that will make an effort to watch races and continualy buy parts to support the sick habbit called "offshore boating".........  :drink:

Sorry Nort. Long weekend...red -eye back yesterday. Thought you were flame-ing the hard work. Some of our races are in the Ocean some are on big lakes and some are on rivers. Each team has their preference (I like BIG water, but don't mind fast and flat). Hey it's fun to watch bud and crc go by at 180 when it's flat...can't do that in the rough stuff. From a "marketing perspective..they are ALL Off-shore. From a racer's perspective it's nice to be challenged by a different type of water at each race. That's why the current set of racers are SOOOOO GOOD! Not only can they run the big stuff but they can shred turns at a hundred plus through boat chop. Pretty bad-ass if you ask me.

Anyways. Get pumped for Destin and stop by the AMF camp for some steak lobster and cold Bud Select.

I like the "variety" that OSS has brought to offshore racing. It is much more challenging for the teams and equipment to be competitive in both rough or relatively flat water (ie short tracks vs super speedways in NASCAR). Now, you add live broadcasting with excellent commentary (such as Charlie & Martin brought this past weekend) and you have a sport that can really grow! :drink:

I especially liked the post race interviews with footage from the chopper.

Dont know who the interviewer was, but he did a pretty good job too.

Also, I like the variety of flat vs calm water. All races dont have to be true offshore ocean races.

For the sport to grow, you need to attract $$$$.

To attract $$$$ you need to attract fans.

To attract fans, you need to give them what THEY want (Mostly Ocean Racing from where I'm sitting).

When you attract the fans, you attract the sponsers who buy the commerical time. And for the commercial time, they will pay $$$, as long as they can get the message to the fans which you attracted by giving THEM what THEY want.

The Live Broadcast is/was KILLER. KUDOS to all involved. Just don't loose sight of the real equation required to take the sport to the next level.

FANS = $$$

Post race interviews were handled by Ian Howard of "The Water Channel".

What made it so great, Lets start with well organized , high definition TV,
more than one camera, actually five camera's were used, including one on the nose of a helo, ( like the one used in the filming of boat scene's of MV).
In cockpit views from Bud Select and Hooters, the jumbo tron that showed all the action. and last but not least All the people that made it happen, from John Haggin and AMF, Hooter's hotel and casino,OSO, OSS, POPRA, and All the Race teams that put some serious cash down to make the long haul for the Showdown in the desert. This could not have been accomplished without any of the above being totally commited to bring offshore racing into your home. I believe that a new standard has been set.
The OSS/OPA/ POPRA World championships will raise the bar again!

Hey Pete,

To think they did all of this from the Desert...

I can only imagine what they will be able to accomplish in Destin where there is civilization.... :drink:
