I don't think there is anyting particularly wrong with either but I would look at the smaller custom builders before buying an OFFSHORE boat. I don't know your budget or if you are flexible in size by but Cig, Active Thunder, Outerlimits, Nor-Tech are much nicer products in my openion.

No, I sold it to a fellow OSO'er, "plumbers crack". I've had a lot of boats, but that was a particularly nice one. By far my wifes favorite! |

Both boats and companies are good and both have been in business for several years succesfully. Take the time to drive boat boats, this will determine which one is best suited for your application. We would be more than happy to take you out in a Fountain 35, 38, 42, 47 if you are ever in the Chicago area.

Formula is a nicer finished boat. Fountain is more solid structurally. Formula has a shollower cockpit, but lots more storage. Fountain has a deep cockpit (feels much safer), but the seats are much lower quality, no comparison. Fountain is faster, so more fuel efficient. But the quality of the hull design, and the lamination, of the Fountain is really, really exceptional. Fountain has a deeper freeboard, but at 6'6" being in the driver's bolster of a 35' sitting or standing is, for me, like riding a tricycle. :p I'll bet that bigger guys would generally choose the roomy feel of the Formula at the helm, the McCleod bolsters and electric footrests. As PB said "anyone can get comfortable in the Formula". Not so in the 35 Beaker...I've tried. There is a fair bit of difference in cabin space and maneuverability! Due to the Formula carrying more hull depth and beam forward, and subtly moreso raised deck. Formula does choose top quality vendors and hardware no doubt. and last but not least.... where did you come from????? :rolleyes: |
