Just wondering if any of you know of an outboard setup Chris Cat??? I have personally never seen one but just recently stumbled across one that is set up for 4 outboards!!! It must be ax x-race boat or something cause there is only the driver and pass seats and no room for anyone else! I'm sure the back can be converted for a back bench but it would take some work. And i think the dealfor this size cat is sweet but i'm sorta leary about spending money for 4 outboards!!!! Maybe convert it to a triple setup?
Anyway my question is how good are they with outboards?
The transome is solid so i guess cutting it up for a set of inboards may just be easier?? sell all the gill outboard brackets to offset some costs??
And what kind of speeds has anyone seen with outboard setups??

There is only ONE MAN to answer your questions on the Chris Cat and that is T2x! Considering he and his best friend George Lindner built them, they would be most knowledgeable in set ups..

If thats the case,

My firend went from a 28 older model scarab to a 26 AO and he said it beat him up. Said he didn't dare take it out in Galveston Bay with anything over 2's.

My question is,

I know we question wave size, but whats the roughest water the 31 can handle comfortably without bangin' the people up too much in the boat? Head on, quartering waves etc,etc,

Hey Shawn... I hope that it is going well, recovering here, they are trying to get me to go into surgery to repair my ACL

The difference between the chris and the 26AO is huge the chris is a rough water boat, the 26AO is built more like a west coast lake boat than a rough water cat. Now the 31 on the other hand is a great east coast style rough water boat. Also the 31 is basically a Chris.

I use to own a Chris Cat with 3 - 2.4 efi Bridgeports. Except for the fact the motors were fixed (no power trim), it was a great boat. I’m bias though; I prefer clamp-on’s to sterndrives.

Thanks man, I am just getting back to normal, if there is such a think I am calling my PT Queen of Darkness right now. She is my ex She is making me ride a bike either stationary or a road bike 10-20 miles per day, and it HURTS my knee.

I know that a 31 rocks in the rough stuff... Been there and done that more than once, it has been a couple of years tough.

There is no "38 er" Chris Cat. They only came in the 30 foot length, and were a direct evolution of the Shadow Cat which George and I created. George updated the Shadow design with wider sponsons and a modified running surface in producing the Chris design.

We(through our later company Conquest Marine, with Ken Adams) also built a 37' running plug for Chris Craft, and that boat is currently at Kurt's Marine in Brick, New Jersey........but no "38ers".

The 30 foot Shadows and Chris Cats were the best running rough water race boats at that size in history..................including vee bottoms, and have been compared to 35-36' Cigarettes in that regard

Four outboards will give you mind blowing acceleration and about 110 top end.......three 2.5's will give you about 100, if the boat is sound and has not gained weight over the years. I would not convert it to inboards as the boat was probably not laid up for them originally, and would need extensive stringer work. If you're dead set on I/B's buy an existing I/B hull.
