A fire in the bilge would be forced by this pressure into your cockpit at an accelerated rate.

All ventilation should carry any air from the bilge well clear of the cockpit, and optimally should be easily closed incase of a fire.

A fiberglass boat is one of the most dangerous places you can in the event of a fire, fiberglass is highly flammable, it produces toxic fumes when burned and it holds hundreds of gallons of explosive fuel...in short, when it comes to an emergency you need all the breaks you can get.

I agree boat fires are devistating!
I have four 4lb. two per engine bay manual and auto Halon exstinguishers with deployment indicators on dash.
When sizing the above fire suppression system I doubled
the cubic feet on the space requirements.
I have manual fuel shutoffs in the cockpit aswell.
It is a open cockpit layout. The cabin is also open.
I am modifying the blower scoops to dump the
incoming air aswell. Actualy cutting the rear of them out.
I could also install relief ducts on the transom.

Thanks for the advice

Rules in spec class racing do not allow for pressurized engine compartments. Since all the boats use a fresh air induction system there needs to be a way to vent any excess air out of the bilge. As far as pleasure boats it would be a benefit to run a pressurized engine compartment. It is very important to seal the engine compartment from the passenger compartment, as stated earlier.
