383 build started
This should get interesting. Tore down the MX 6.2 today, pretty high quality stuff Mercruiser put in. I and the guys at CHS racing were impressed. Looking for 450 ish at the crank, shouldn't be a problem. I know a few here have done the build up already, any suggestions????

Re: 383 build started
Merc use's good stuff. I have built 2 sets of 383's putting out no less then 485 hp,...on pump gas. Use the best heads u can afford...be sure and have good comunication when buying and or having work done. In other words tell them you RPM range, and thats its for a boat obviously.
The only other motor I would build other then a 383 would be a LS2 punched to a 402. Sweet :D Have fun with the build :D :drink: |
Re: 383 build started
my cousin just took my old 383 with edelbrock heads, 510 hp and in a 69 camaro with street tires ran a 12.56 at MIR raceway... they are great motors, torque pigs :D

Re: 383 build started
I just had a large infusion into my bank account, so its going to be done the right way. I am thinking aluminum heads, Darts. SO the 383 makes pretty good torque????

Re: 383 build started
I did a pair a few years ago in a 27 Hallett.
Dynoed at 447/477 EMCO exaust AFR 190 heads (Highly reccomend!!) Edlebock RPM (1" spacer) Comp Hyd roller 750 Holley 10.6-1 CR 91/92 oct a must w/32 total timing and no more!! used KB Hyperutectic pistons and Chinese cast cranks, motors are still running strong. This realy turned out to be a great little package and relativly cheap. If your mostly lake running and have rev limmiters they will live a long time. KL |
