I really am just off on my annual rant and want to get my post count up. Please forgive me if I sound offensive in some of my posts. I'm just irritated. It's the holidays. Isn't everyone irritated? Rich is getting the brunt of the rant since I respect him the most out of the oppostion.

My apologies.

DK

P.S. Don't mention 525's again, Rich!

May I weigh in here with some opinion as to the positive aspects of Reggie?

First of all, Reggie is a marketing genuis.

Second, if you spend any time around him at all then you know he works hard to improve the technical aspects of his boats which is the primary reason they go faster and handle better than ever before.

Third, he is on top and has been longer than any one offshore power boat figure in history with the exception of Don Aronow.

Finally, his boats ARE fast.

Man has always tried to go faster. Again, spend any time around Reggie and you know that his constant quest is driven as much by his simple desire to go fast and love of speed than anything commercial oriented.

I certainly had my differences with Reggie in the past but never challenged any of the above basic principles.

I think the Fountain threads have officially taken over the former "Apache Thread" stigma.

Reggie is running a HUGE amount of HP against as little weight as possible to set a record that means little in terms of comparing his product to anyone else's..... If he wants to prove the product...run side by side comparisons with 525's, 1075's or some other constant source of comparative HP.

Drag boats go over 240 mph from a standing start....... in 1/4 mile.... That's a lot more impressive driving feat than running a 42' monster at 170-180 or wherever with enough power to spare to lock the hull down against the water.....While it still takes guts...let's put this whole nonsense into perspective.

1. They've done NOTHING yet

2. If they do we''ll be relieved that no one is hurt

3. If they don't this thread was a complete waste of space.

4. If , God Forbid, a tragedy occurs.... many of you will be quite disappointed on the following Sunday.

If it is not impressive to run 180 in a 42 foot V-hull,I have a set of 1700s we could put in a state of the art V-hull race boat and you can go out and set a record.I think there is a certain amount of respect that should be showed to Reggie for what he has done!
