Aside from the personal attacks I find the debate rather interesting. I only wish there were a means by which to conduct such a debate without potential and current sponsors seeing it. But I fo rone have found it interesting and would be really interested to see how it is all going to play out.

Surely the methods used by Mr. Crouse are Mind boggling to say the least and violently offensive to those he speaks about.

how about using some of that money for legal fees and put it into the television production--maybe have someone that knows a little about the sport calling the fu#*ng race--the dope calling the st.pete race made stupid, misinforming comments i.e.-"those supercat supercharged 1600hp motors are realling running"--the sport will never grow to it's potential if the people representing it don't know anything about it.

This thread is a beauty!

Being sued for libel and slander is not some minor inconvenience to the defendant. You have to get an attorney; you have to notify your insurance company; you have to notify your company's or employer's insurance company; you don't defend yourself if you plan on having insurance, they defend you. The last thing they want is any input from you. You, rightly or wrongly, have done all of the talking you are going to do. If you want insurance, you shut up. That's why JC has disappeared. So much for eloquent defenses, the truth etc. etc. That is not the way it goes.

For those of you that you don't like M.A. or the APBA, race with someone else. Watch someone else's races. Whatever. If you do, the fact is you are not racing with the largest group of fairly entered boats, and you will not be watching the largest, most competitive races. If that works for you, great. I would not substitute 2 seconds of fame on a bulletin board with obscure BS, for being a participant or a fan of a great motorsport happening. Are mistakes made? Of course. I can barely keep track of all of the good things much less ... what???

For those of you keeping score...This thread is running about 50-50 for and against Mike A. and/or John Crouse. But a clear majority are against the whole concept of a lawsuit. About 10% of the contributors are bringing in outside issues and victims, the most popular target being Benny Robertson at the moment. There are personal attacks, and a lot of chest beating as well.

My Observations:

1. Lawyers can do 2 things, write contracts and agreements, or litigate. Since contracts are definitely out of the question in this matter, Mike chose the only other thing he understands, a lawsuit. Sadly, salesmanship, team building, openess, patience and leadership were once again abandoned in favor of war ( we're back to pecker length again). Kent and Steve M, try just a little more subtlety in your role as scripted minions, and also a little humility. APBA isn't THAT good..... nor is it that bad.

2. The person I feel worst about in this is Art Lilly, who was just standing there minding his own business when WHAM! right in the nuts..... That was totally classless.

3. While all the popcorn references are funny, the actual plot line in this movie is the war between 2 windbags , an old one, who believes he knows everything (for the right price), and a young one (who has a real issue with anyone over 45...and an ego that is consuming everything and everybody around him).

4. We are long past worrying about sponsors reading this. Frankly the drug policies of most major sports get so much media attention that it has become painfully obvious sponsors enjoy publicity, no matter what kind. It's about public interest..stupid. Alas, nobody outside of performance boaters really gives a damn about the sport anyway. How can they? We have too many classes, sanctioning bodies, sycophants, do nothings, wannabe's, never was's, windbags, and spoiled brats in control. At this point there is no solution on this table, just misplaced loyalties, selfish desires to see each racer's boat on television (no matter how boring, non competitive, or ,worst of all, invisibly redundant it may be), and of course pecker length competition.

See Ya,

T2x

PS. Hi Ron Hill.... Welcome to the board... You've got the chops and the records to back up your points.... but lighten up man.... Or I'll make you spend an eternity in a Glastron with a pair of Evinrudes on the back... I'm sorry, I forgot,.... you already served that sentence :p

Hi,
JC is John Crouse, just as MA is Mike Allweiss.

Most high-ish profile people have Personal Scope (indemnity) policies. Even your homeowners will respond in a libel lawsuit however. Crouse Publications would have liability insurance including coverage for libel in the ordinary course of that business.

He is "gone" because he is precluded from saying anything that would further involve the insurance companies. If he makes matters worse with public statements, they will not cover him on the "worsening" of the lawsuit.

All of this is my $.02 and my guestimates on what is going on.

Ted
