What kind of boat-The Great Mccarthy

What brand of boat is the red one in the Miami Vice Great Mccarthy race?

It has a wide beam.

My guess is a Tempest.?

The boat is called a Citation and it was built by Sonny Miller. They only built a few. Boat line was previously called MSV.

Sorry, it was a Celebrity

Sorry guys but it was a Celebrity called Red Ryder. (and I owned a Coyote, so I am very familiar) Larry Goldman took care of that boat at Turnberry in the mid 80's. Larry, his company called G-Force at the time, also took care of a 34 Scarab called BlackJack (BlackJack was also in that episode), and my friends 38 TG 'Lethal Weapon'. In Turnberry during the same period was George Barrie's (Craigs dad) 38 Cigarette and 80' Yacht 'Toy George'. Also Michel Meynards 40' Orange bubbledeck Cigarette and his orange cat Fayva Shoe which was later called 'Wall Street Express'. Also Ben Pumpian & James Caan's 38 Scarab 'Be Right Back'. And for you Political historians, Don Sopher's 'Monkey Business' on which Donna Rice contributed to Gary Hart's political downfall.

The 'McCarthy boat was of course a 50' Cary.

Here's a trivia question for you that only Larry and I may know the answer to, because I was there at Turnberry the night he left for filming. What other Miami Vice episode was the Red Celebrity in?

In the beginning of my favorite episode, 'The Bushido', a boat pulls up to the beach in the dark and drops off 2 guys. Crockett says to Tubbs something like 'Sounds like twin turbo's'. The boat in the dark was the Red Ryder Celebrity driven by Larry. At Turnberry that night Larry told me about the upcoming filming. It was misting and kind of yucky out. Our group went to the old Plum Room atop Yesterday's restaurant that night, so it's a safe bet we ate better than Larry did that evening.

A Celebrity is a boat brand and was a Signature splash. If you look up some posts by Charlie McCarthy (Top Banana), they talk about the lineage of a lot of the old boats. Charlie, T2x (Rich Luhrs), 7XCHAMP (Richie Powers) and Brownie know more about these boats and that era than pretty much anyone.
