29Fever, That is the point. Boat builders list these silly MSRP's and end up discounting the boat by a huge percentage. If they would just go to 10 or 15% of reality it would make a lot more since. They tell you the boat is 200K and sell it for 150. If they would just say the boat is 160 and sell it for 150 folks would not be so sticker shocked. MSRP's are so wide spread. Then they play the shell game of the base price of the boat and every piece of it is an option. "OH you want seats and a motor that will be $60,000.00 extra." One builder gives HYD steering as standard and the other sells it for 10 Grand. When you get to the bottom line the boat price is the same. Just does not make any since. See Ya!

You do know that 575SCi's are not cheap. I don't know the exact price of the 575 package but I do know that HP500's add over $30K/each to the price of a boat, over standard 496's. I'd have to believe that twin 575SCi's would add $80K-$90K to the price of a base boat.

Chris, I'm also glad to hear your boat is at Donzi. Last time I was there (July 01) they were reworking a 38ZX for an insurance company. With the slow economy they have time to dedicate people to reworking older boats. I do believe they will take care of you and your boat.

Hang on Folks, the new F2 boat will help show the true capabilities of Donzi. This summer the prototype boat was already running faster than the current F2 speed record.

Donziman2, your last post was well stated. My father's attitude has always been "tell me what you want and I'll give you my best price", no MSRP or haggling B.S.. He doesn't make a lot of money, infact he often looses money, but he's having fun selling a boat he's been in love with since he was a kid.

no way Rick...

I ordered my boat with a 496/HO and an HP500 would have been another $11,000

RickS 01-09-2002 04:16 PM

JeffreyBoy,
You said $11K over the price of the 496MAG/HO, which is an engine upgrade. I'm saying $30K over the price of the base motor, 496 MAG or 454 MAG. I'm also refering to MSRP based pricing since the boat in question seemed to have MSRP pricing. I'll double check and find out for sure what the cost is of each engine upgrade. I'll be back.

RickS, Thanks. The follow-up to your post is what I am talking about. MSRP VS. Reality! The Price Jeff was quoted for his 500EFI from Sunsation was more than Donzi wanted to put it on my last boat I ordered. To go from the 496HO to the 500 when we got trough haggling was not that bad. You just never know what the bottom line is.

DONZIMAN2 01-09-2002 04:38 PM

RickS, I tried to pull up the link you posted and could not get access. If you get a chance shoot it to me. Thanks.

Well then, I guess I'm just another guy who got spanked! My boat was coming out of the mold exactly 1 year ago. The upcharge for me to upgrade from 496HO to 500EFI's was $30K+. I have never heard, on a new boat order (not-in-stock)of that low a price. I probably would have swung $22K, but I was assured the upper to the dealer was higher than $11K. O'well, I'll just have to add Whipples when their ready ;)

RickS, For your homework I pulled up the 288 Sunsation build your own section to see what the MSRP would be for the various engines. I started with a 496/375HP and worked up to the 575. Here are the results. Base boat no options, with 496 Non-HO is:$76383.00 : Mag HO is 82,264, HP is 95120, And 575 is 129,357. When you look at the differences it will give you something to compare it to. The single engine upgrade to 575 from the base motor is (are you sitting down) $52,974.00.

DONZIMAN2 01-09-2002 05:06 PM

Kentz, 10-15 a side seems to be about the average depending who you are dealing with.

RickS, good to see your still around, I hope you and your Dad are well and we hope to see you in KY for the big Donzi event..

This has been an education thread for me on boat building (not prices and motors), I have been to the factory 3 times and I learn more from DONZIMAN2 than I can often handle! Good and Bad! I was glad to learn the differences in coring, all the tech talk was not why I bought another Donzi, it was our preference for our own reasons....

Bob change your name to DONZIMAN1....

Speaking of Donzi, I played in mine today, cutting back the winter wish list on my new boat, the new super fenders for our raft ups are now mounted in the engine compartment! Of course I sat in the cuddy, tunes rocking with a beer!
Bryan....
