Socal,
Thanks for the info today, nice talking with you.

TTT, still looking for opinions on this motor. Curious as to how many of these motors Mercury racing has sold......
Thanks,
Dean

Im betting its a big diff, cause ya gotta think about the guys that runs the shet out of it compared to a guy that cruises.

Also if ya have the 600's in a 42 Cig Tiger compared to a 388 Hustler thats alot lighter.

I had more issues with the XR drives than the 600s. Factory smoked the first drive testing the boat. It had several test hours on it since it was the first 43 Sunsation built. I personally had no issues with either the engines or the drives, and traded the boat with 105 hours on it. But shortly after I traded the dealer took it to a poker run and shucked another drive. To my knowledge it still has never had issues with the motors.

I always knew the drives had limited life in that size boat, so I always was easy on it out of the hole and accelerating.

I looked at a boat with 250 hrs on the 600's, over a 100 of them mostly idling, blowing drives and coming back on one motar. The motors sound great but worries me.
Just wondering if anyone has put this many hours on them.

Thank Joe

John,
I guess that is the good with the bad...... Makes you wonder why would MERC sell that combo, 600s w/ XR's.... even if you baby them, they are going to blow....

Back when I had to make the engine decision was 8-9 months or so before Merc released the 700 NXT drive combination. The NXT is the right drive for that F4.

I think the XR would probably hold up better with the 600 on a smaller boat. There use to be a lot of 525 XR black thunders running LOTO, and they usually scheduled rebuilds every 2 seasons, and hoped they would make it to the rebuild.
