So I guess I am really babying my boat at 3000 rpm's. It looks like it's not too uncommon to run 'em near 4k.

3800 to 4000 rpms is still@ zero boost and a real nice cruise rpm, engines are set @ 6400 rpm red line.

3600=about 35 mph 502s arneson drives pushing 15,000 lbs if loaded light
