Default Overseas Construction

Please don't criticize a boatbuilder for building boats overseas.I would like to remind everyone that SUNSEEKERS,VIKINGS(some models),PERSHINGS,and FAIRLINES are foreign built as are most of the largest yachts.

Boat is further diluting the brand...................Don Aronow covered the big cruiser market and he called it MAGNUM MARINE!

Fishing/ Cruising? What is next a sailboat from Cigarette?
Braver is killing the brand.

Unless it's built by Columbians and Cubans , it's not a Cigarette. Looks nice though.

Sorry, I agree with pm203 on the Turkey thing. While many large luxury yachts are made in Europe, this is Italy, Germany, Netherlands, etc.

Turkey has some fine craftsmen and is capable of producing good yachts such as Proteksan-Turquoise yachts or RMK Shipyards. However, these are exeptions rather than the rule and the average quality is quite poor compared to standards we've come to expect today. Turkey has many, many shipyards but when you look at the number of good ones in relation to the overall number, the density of good ones is very low. If you don't know the scene, you're more likely to end up with a crappy one.

Netherlands for example is quite the opposite: of yacht-producing shipyards, you would be hard-pressed to find one with questionable quality and engineering.

Besides, good Turkish shipyards like Proteksan and RMK specialise in 100'+ displacement yachts and I would be very hesitant to buy a Turkish-built 55' fast boat simply because I don't know of a yard there that would be interested in building this and that is up to scratch. The only yard worth considering in this size range in Turkey is Numarine. Their finish quality is not up there with the best yet but they have the right attitude and are open to advice. This is why they are making good progress and given the infrastructure investments they've made, they will get there soon. But even Numarine is trying to move towards the 100'+ market.

BTW, OTAM Shipyards is something else. Their Millennium 55 is a well-built and well-finished boat which performs extremely well. Close to 65 mph with twin CAT C-32s. Fast for such a big, beamy boat. It's got Cig stickers on it but I have to agree with Jupiter, the whole concept is much closer to Magnum.

Looks like the boat mfg. is going the way of the automotive industry did and offshoring more american jobs. It's not the quality they're looking for it's the pennies on the dollar labor.
