Is your boat documented?

If so, can you give me a rough idea of how you did it and how much it cost? I am financing and told the lender I wanted to document the boat. He gave me a figure that I thought was high to handle this and I am thinking you guys could lend some insight...

I've used SeaCoast Financial out of California twice. Last one in 2005 cost me $495.00. Probably can get it done for less but I liked working with them the first time.

My lender made me use Their Documentation company. It is actually someone that they subcontract with. I believe the charge was $350. If you don't mind administrative BS you can do it yourself via the
U.S. Coast Guard website. I just had to get an abstract of title through the website and it was a piece of cake.

Good luck.

Call me tomorrow about an alternative I did....

My lender did the same to me, i believe it was around $300-350 after that i renewed it through th CG.

I did it through the USCG web site and it was a piece of cake. Can't remember exactly how much, but it was less than $200 for sure. That was back in'02 though. All you will need is a Manuf Statement of Origin (MSO) from Sunsation to go with your app.

Definitely the way to go as you avoid having to deal with the VA DGIF and all their requirements.

I did the same. Unlike state registration you don't have to pay for renewal every year!

dukenrock 02-20-2007 08:14 AM

I still had to Register my boat in Indiana even though it's Documented. I was pulled over in Michigan because there was no Registration sticker. He let me go with a verbal warning but said he would ticket next time.

My lender took care of it. It is also registered in TX but I dont display the state numbers.

Same here, just the window sticker.
